The WHO, WHAT, HOW of Bible Study!

a word from Payton Tipton....
Hey girls!
First off, I would like to give a little shout out to all my Monday night Bible Study girls. I have enjoyed spending time with you all SO very much, and am excited about what we learned and how we can apply it in order to grow in our walks with the Lord.

One of the most important spiritual disciplines we can practice is studying God’s Word, His incredible love letter to us. I encourage all of you, not just the girls that have come to the study, to continue picking Scripture apart verse by verse and asking the big questions: WHO wrote it, and to whom was it written? WHAT was the author saying? HOW can we apply it to our own lives? Also, write down words that look unfamiliar or that you do not know the meanings of and look them up! We have such a wonderful resource called that can help us. JDoing these simple things can increase our intimacy with the Lord through actually knowing what His Word to us is saying.

So we have been studying the book of Ephesians….here are the answers to the big questions for this book as a whole!

WHO? The apostle Paul, formerly known as Saul/ writing TO the believers in the city of Ephesus

WHAT? Paul gives us an explanation of what the purpose of the church, Christ’s body, is, and how it should work together as one unit. He compares the church to our human bodies in that if one part is failing, the body fails. On the other hand, if one part is doing well, that helps the body as a whole to do well. He reveals that God has given us all different gifts, and those should be used to bring more glory to God. He also tells us that salvation is not for the Jews only, but for ALL people. This is the beautiful mystery of the Gospel.

HOW? We as believers in Jesus Christ are part of the church, Christ’s body. We need to know what our role and purpose is in the church by using the gifts we have been given to build others up and bring honor to our Savior! We are ONEunit through Jesus.

I pray that all of you would take these few tools and use them daily in your quiet time with the Lord. If you are not having a daily quiet time right now, it’s okay. You can start now! A great book to start with is Proverbs. If you read one Proverb a day, you will have devotions for a whole month! J I want to leave you with some special Scripture to encourage you in your studying.

“The law of the Lord is perfect, reviving the soul. The statutes of the Lord are trustworthy, making wise the simple. The precepts of the Lord are right, giving joy to the heart. The commands of the Lord are radiant, giving light to the eyes.”
Psalm 19:7-8
Love y'all!!

What a treat it's been to have Payton and Devon leading Bible Studies this summer! I hope you girls have taken advantage of having them here to pour into you this summer. There's only a couple more weeks with them left so snag some time with them if you haven't yet! Devon will be blogging later this week so stay tuned! - Ms. Suzanne
