A Woman Who Fears the Lord Is To Be Praised

I have been thinking about this “fear” of the Lord for a couple of weeks now; this reverent, “in awe” kind of fear. Ever since Pastor Lockerman preached on fearing the Lord, this subject has stirred my heart and has been shown to me in almost every one of my Quiet Times for awhile now.

Pastor said that to fear the Lord is to 1) Know that the Lord is who He says He is and 2) He will do what He says He will do.

These are both frightful and freeing truths. In light of our sin, this can be either beautiful, or down right ugly and painful. Knowing that God will do what He says He will do means that He will judge our sin like He says. The truth is, we all sin, and apart from God we will have to pay for it (Romans 6:23). But Hallelujah! He has said more! “If you confess with your mouth, "Jesus is Lord," and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved” (Romans 10:9). That is not only being saved from paying the punishment of your sin, but also getting to know the Lord personally, have Him reside in you, and walk with Him daily. The Lord! Who is who He says He is…with you daily! Now that’s an “in awe” awesome fear!

Further, God doesn’t stop there! Pastor Lockerman has also been talking about our ‘Christ Story’ on Sunday mornings. God is and has been at work in us to fulfill purposes for His Kingdom! Your story may look different from my story (or I should say stories, because we have MUCH to do for the Kingdom) but our pursuit and purpose should be the same – to make much of Him! We must cling closely to and be “confident of this, that he who began a good work in you will carry it on to completion until the day of Christ Jesus” (Philippians 1:6).

But how does this affect your life? Your words? Your actions? Do you live “in awe” of the Lord? Do you fearfully and wonderfully praise God for who He is? Do you fearfully and wonderfully obey His Word? This is what it means to glorify the One who IS who He says He is and WILL do what He says He will do. He is the great I AM (Exodus 3:14), the Creator of all things, including time as we know it (Genesis 1) and He is the ONLY One worthy of our praise and our whole hearted attempt to obey Him and serve Him. And though we don’t deserve it, He honors us and glorifies us to celebrate Him for eternity. This is a beautiful fear! Indeed, “a woman who fears the Lord is to be praised” (Proverbs 31:30b).

Praise God that He does what He says He will do! He has given us His Word!

“In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. He was with God in the beginning.”
John 1:1-2
