More than a Moment

Hi Girls!

First off, if you are looking for the March DIG Questions, those are on the previous post.

I just got back from a weekend in Tallahassee where my primary reason for going home was to speak and pray at my sister-in-laws investiture...which is the robing ceremony and commissioning service for naming her a Judge in the Direct Court of Appeals for the state of Florida. Pretty impressive if I do say so myself, and I am so incredibly proud of her and honored to call her family and friend!

I had the sweet privilege of giving a personal testimony of her character and faith in Christ and as I began to pray over what I wanted to convey to this room of VIP's (yes, very important people haha), I realized that the most important trait is a life that reflects, honors, and serves our God, which is something I have witnessed in the decade that I have known my sister-in-law.

This trait is really more of a lifestyle and the idea of it and how I wanted to convey it to you as well has been on my heart and mind and in my prayers for the past month. It is not just a moment that defines you but the perseverance of a lifetime. So often I see people counting on specific instances in which they have made a "good decision" or even a "Christian decision" and they bank on those moments to define them as a Christian, but in reality those instances are far and few between making them just: random instances. Our Christian faith is not marked by a nice gesture here and there but yet through consistency, and it is because of this consistency that when you do "mess" up, talk out of turn, are rude...whatever it is, you aren't marked by that instance either, but yet by the race you have been running. This defines your character.

"Therefore, since we are surrounded by so great a cloud of witnesses, let us also lay aside every weight, and sin which clings so closely, and let us run with endurance the race that is set before us, looking to Jesus, the founder and perfecter of our faith, who for the joy that was set before him endured the cross, despising the shame, and is seated at the right hand of the throne of God." - Hebrews 12:1-2, NIV

Let's look at this verse above. If you are involved in our church, in our Bible study times, in our Girls and Youth events, YOU are surrounded by a great cloud of witnesses! Be encouraged and use it! Next, continue to surround yourself with Christian peers and adults both at Church and away from Church (school, hang outs, weekends, etc.) so that you have the accountability to "lay aside every weight and sin" that would hinder a character of Christ-likeness. Finally, be ever looking to Jesus so that you CAN endure this race, a race that HAS been set before you from eternity past. YOU have a purpose and it is to glorify God! But know that looking to Jesus includes being in the Word and in prayer consistently. It means participating in godly activities and serving others...and it means respecting others in your attitude and words (including your parents!). The great news is that you aren't running alone. So jump in and run with us! Why? Because Jesus IS the "perfecter of our faith, who for the joy that was set before him endured the cross, despising the shame, and is seated at the right hand of the throne of God." AMEN!

Girls, I am running with you! Here to help you live a life that reflects, honors and serves our God. But you have to surrender to Him first and stop seeking to reflect, honor and serve the lies of the world and our culture. I am praying for you and here for you! Use your cloud of witnesses and join the race the Lord has set before you.
