Girls Retreat 2009....YEE-HAW!!

Howdy Girls!

We're finally settled from the ROCKIN' Girls Retreat '09! I wanted to give you a recap and reassure you that you DO NOT want to miss a Girls Retreat again. Lucky for you, we still have plenty-o-fun planned between now and next year's retreat...click here to check it out!

This year's theme was on Pure Relationships. We talked about how to love one another and focused on Ephesians 4:32, "Be kind to one another, tenderhearted, forgiving one another, as God in Christ forgave you." We studied God's Word on what it means to love others: friends, parents, and our brothers in Christ out of an overflow of our desire to glorify Christ, our Savior. If we really grasp what we have been saved from and the magnitude of how great our God is, we should want to honor Him in the way we treat others.

We were blessed with some amazing speakers from The Southern Baptist Theological Seminary in Louisville, KY (my alma mater). Professor Jaye Martin brought a team of four seminary girls down to help lead the retreat.

Kelli Martin spoke on having a pure attitude, especially in dealing with friends and situations like gossip. She walked us through "Heart Talk" in that we can hope in a future that is good and prosperous (Jeremiah 29:11-13) for those that believe in Christ (John 3:16) and turn from their sin (Acts 3). It is by the Gospel alone that we are able to love others, and as believers we need to love others!

Caitlin Shakely and Diana London together spoke on having pure respect for our parents. While Caitlin hammered in on our call to honor our parents and honor God who placed them in our authority, Diana reminded us on the eternal outcome that could result from such obedience, especially if our parent(s) were non-believers.

Joy Harris brought a refreshing approach to the subject of boundaries...both in general and with boys (especially in respect to how we, as girls, dress). She walked through the 10 commandments and gave a voice to how these commandments are set to keep us on track with honoring God. We don't have to wonder what the boundaries we should set look like because God has told us how we can glorify Him with our life. Our task is simple: STAY FOCUSED.

I followed with our final session that summarized all of these points as ways that we can choose to honor God with our life. Before each action and each word, we have a choice: to either glorify God with our words and actions...or not to. Who/what are you serving?

We also had a very AWESOME Modest Fashion Show lead by a fantastic team of Juniors and Seniors. I was so proud to watch them throughout the entire retreat as they lead and encouraged all of our girls. Indeed, Modest IS Hottest!

Now....what you are really excited about....PICTURES!! After all, they are worth more than a 1000 words. Thanks to Mrs. Gina Allison you can >>click here<< for an album full of great shots and play-by-play recaps of the weekend.

OCTOBER DIG! ... and other fun

Hello, hello!

The time has finally come for me to announce our first DIG opportunity!! First, let me remind you about what this is. DIG is a monthly opportunity to answer 10 Bible Question for a chance to win lunch, coffee, or ice cream with ME! These questions will challenge you to DIG through the Bible to find answers. The first THREE Cleveland MS or HS girls to respond in the comment section on this blog (must be on this blog site, not facebook, etc.) with all 10 correct answers will then win a "date" with me, and must schedule it before the end of the month. We will have a DIG opportunity once a month, so always check the site for the next posting!

October's DIG:

1) Of the 10 commandments, what is the 3rd commandment?

2) What did God appoint to destroy the plant that was giving shade to Jonah when he left Nineveh?

3) Give the Scriptural reference for this verse: “Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous! Do not tremble or be dismayed, for the Lord your God is with you wherever you go.”

4) What does Isaiah 26:4 say?

5) When Ruth and Naomi arrived in Bethlehem, what did Naomi ask the people to call her instead of her name and why?

6) In the parable of the talents (Matthew 25) what did the one who was given only one talent do with it?

7) In that same parable (Matthew 25) what did the master say to those who had gained additional talents from what they had been given?

8) What verses tells us that “All Scripture is inspired by God and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, for training in righteousness, so that the man of God may be adequate, equipped for every good work.”

9) Name all 9 of the fruits of the Spirit.

10) Name the Scripture reference in the book of James that refers to us as “just a vapor (or mist) that appears for a little while and then vanishes away.”

Happy Searching! :)

Now...for a couple more fun tid-bits...

1) You have one week left to sign up for the girls retreat! Please help us plan the BEST retreat for you by signing up this week. Lots of planning goes into a retreat, so the sooner we know to count on YOU, the better! I so hope you can join us! It's going to be so much fun!

2) We had SUCH a fun first round of MNM nights with the Middle School girls last night! We met at Ms. Pandy's home and learned about Biblical femininity in the home. Ms. Pandy taught from Proverbs 31 and really emphasized verse 30, "Charm is deceptive, and beauty is fleeting; but a woman who fears the Lord is to be praised." It is also my prayer that our girls seeks to have pure hearts that are in awe of our Lord before their concern for theirs looks and wit. Ms. Pandy along with some of our other great moms then taught all 20 girls how to make pumpkin chocolate chip cookies (um, YUM) and how to sew on a button! Such valuable life lessons! The girls had a great time and cannot wait for our next meeting on November 30th at Ms. Tammy's home!

**High School girls...have no fear you will be learning and doing all this fun stuff at your Sunday Night Makeover at Ms. Megan's home. November 8th from 4-6 PM.

3) Last but not least, I had promised picture from our Girls Ministry Launch. Man, what a great night we had! Enjoy the pictures and leave a comment about what you are most excited for in Girls Ministry this year!
